The cancelled rematch with Nate Diaz did not stop Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight champ Conor McGregor from garbage talking the guy who dealt him his first loss inside the octagon. McGregor was set up to again fight Diaz at UFC 200 this July, but he had problems with the promotion which caused the rematch being scratched off the card. Regardless of not having a fixed date for the 2nd conference between them, the two have actually exchanged barbs on social media especially following McGregor's fake retirement statement a few weeks ago.
The most recent from McGregor was a picture of him during a public exercise ahead of last March's UFC 196, the occasion where Diaz beat him via rear-naked choke. It revealed the 27-year-old working on his boxing. In the caption, the Irish bragged exactly what he did to Diaz, landing the very same uppercut repeatedly on the latter's nose regardless of the height of the Stockton local.
McGregor then followed, "Mark my (expletive) words I am going to toy with him in the rematch. Think that." During the fight at UFC 196, McGregor dominated the overall standup. In the closing moments of the second round, his absence of defense allowed Diaz to utilize his boxing.
A right from Diaz stunned McGregor which resulted in the latter trying to bring the fight to the ground, a big mistake. As soon as Diaz stopped McGregor's takedown attempt, he displayed world-class jiu-jitsu to choke out the featherweight authority. With the rematch date still unclear, it is anticipated the two will continue insulting each other. UFC president Dana White already said after the fiasco with McGregor that they are going to book him to a battle soon.
